Meet Our Coordinator:

Abdul GhaffarThe Angel Elite sports program is coordinated by Abdul Ghaffar. Abdul graduated from UNC Pembroke with a B.A. in Public Relations in 1990.  He received his masters of science in Recreation Management from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He worked at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke for nearly 13 years before joining Native Angels Homecare and Hospice in May 2006 to become the full time coordinator of Angel Elite Sports and the Facility Manager for the Angel Elite Sports Complex which is to begin construction in the fall of 2008. The complex will house a Mondo surface hydraulic banked 200m indoor track and 4 multi purpose sports courts. The track will be one of seven indoor hydraulic banked systems in the world. Ghaffar began his career at UNCP in 1993 as assistant director of Student Activities. In 1998, he became sports information director and in 1999, he was named director of Student Activities.

As an undergraduate, Ghaffar was a four-year letterman in basketball and a two-year letter winner in track. He was a starter and captain on UNCP’s 1990 Carolinas Conference tournament champion basketball team. As a senior he also served as the Student Government Association vice-president.

Ghaffar attended Northwood H.S. in Pittsboro where he was an all-conference selection in cross country, basketball and track. As a senior he finished 4th in the 800m run at the N.C. State H.S. 2-A track championships. In basketball he was selected all conference, all-county and was named to both the Durham Morning Herald and Sanford Herald all-area basketball teams.

At Student Activities, Ghaffar developed several programs, including the Leadership and Service Opportunities Program, Parents Weekend and the Distinguished Speaker Series. He was born in Charlotte, N.C., and was raised in Pittsboro, N.C.
