Charlotte, N.C. – The Angel Elite track team spread its wings recently recording its first AAU Regional team title last weekend at UNC Charlotte. The 16U girls won the intermediate age group scoring 77 points edging out the High Point Panthers team who scored 64. A total of 19 teams battled for girl's intermediate team title. As a team, Angel Elite captured a team record 18 individual regional titles while qualifying 12 athletes for the 43rd AAU Junior Olympic Games to be hosted by Norfolk, Virginia.
Jaynell Brown, Aminah Ghaffar, Jamicia Jones, Mollie Williams, Dominic Patterson, Timara Chapman, Shelbi Chapman and Imani Chapman each collected championships at the event. Brown won her 5th consecutive shot put title and also grabbed gold in the discus, Ghaffar captured her 5th long jump title along with a gold in the heptathlon giving her 8 AAU regional titles over all, Jamicia Jones won the 16U 1500m run for the third time while the Chapman sisters of Raleigh combined for an incredible 9 individual titles led by young Timara who snagged 4 10U titles (800m, 1500m, high jump and triathlon). Shelbi Chapman won 11U titles while Imani won double gold. Mollie Williams continues to dominate the 16U 100m hurdles in North Carolina by winning the title in the event. She also recorded an impressive PR in the 400m hurdles en route to a silver medal in the event. Taylor McBryde, Alea Singletary, Williams and Ghaffar (all rising sophomores) combined for Angel Elites first ever relay title grabbing gold in the 16U 4x400 meter relay in a time of 4.14.76
For the guys, Dominick Patterson of Raleigh absolutely dominated the 13U field easily winning the 400m dash with a sizzling 54.91 along with the 100m hurdles and the 200m hurdles. Brandon Brown of Lumberton had a strong showing finishing second in the long jump and 4th in the 16U 100m dash. Denzell Jefferson of St. Pauls won silver in the 17U 1500m run while Walter Ghaffar grabbed a couple of bronze medals in the in the 8U shot put and long jump.
Other AAU Region 3 Championship Results
Damian Ransom finished 8th in the 16U discus while Red Springs senior Dakwon Haywood finished 6th in the 400m dash running 50.04. South Robeson's Devante Quick finished 11th in the 17U 100m dash. Darian Fogg finished 9th in the 80m hurdles.
AAU JUNIOR OLYMPIC TEAM
All Angel Elite athletes who finished in the top four at the regional meet qualify for the 43rd Annual AAU Junior Olympic games to be hosted in Norfolk, Virginia.

2009 Angel Elite Track & Field 13u AAU State Titles

The Club captured a team record;13 state titles at the N.C. AAU State Championship meet-GOLDEN GIRLS: Aminah Ghaffar, Jaynell Brown, Jamicia Jones, Olivia Mack and Moriah Morten combined for 12 gold medals at the meet. Ghaffar led Angel Elite collecting 4 state titles. Ghaffar has won 11 AAU state titles including 4 straight in both the long jump and high jump. Jaynell Brown has quite a run going as well as she won her 5th consecutive shot put title and 4th straight discus state title. Jamicia Jones won the 16U 400m dash, 800m run, and 1500m run. Olivia Mack had a great meet, picking up two gold medals winning the 100m dash and the 400m. She also picked up silvers in the both the 200m and 800m. Moriah Morten won the 3000m run and finished 3rd in the 1500m run. Justin Jacobs won the discus representing the Angel Elite men.

Aminah won her 6th national track title at the Club National Championships in Orlando, FL repeating as the AAU Club National champ in the pentathlon. She also added four more medals during the week finishing 2nd in the high jump, 4th in the 100m hurdles, 5th in the 200m hurdles and 6th in the long jump.

Aminah earned Elite Youth Ranking System All-American honors in the pentathlon (#18).

USATF N.C. State meet medalists: Jaynell - GOLD - shot put, silver- discus; Aminah- silver- 200m hurdles; bronze- 4x400m and HJ

Jaynell Brown finished 9th in the shot at the USATF Jr. Olympic Games while Aminah finished 11th in the 200m hurdles. Aminah and Jaynell chose not to compete in the AAU Junior Olympics. Both would have likely scored medals had they attended (Aminah in the pentathlon and Jaynell in the shotput).

In 2009 Angel Elite recorded its highest finish ever at the AAU Club National Championship meet with a 5th place performance (of 48) in the Youth age group. Aminah scored 33 pts and was just 3 points away from a 3rd place team finish alone. The team finished 72nd of 170 with just two athletes.

- Jr. Olympics: Jaynell Brown became just the second club member to win an AAU Junior Olympic medal when she won two medals at the Junior Olympic Games in Detroit, MI. (shot put and discus). Aminah won her 9th Junior Olympic medal recording an 8th place finish in the pentathlon.
- Aminah and Jamicia were strong at the Club National Championships in Orlando. Aminah won the gold (her 5th national title) in the pentathlon and also grabbed silver in the HJ and bronze in both hurdle races (100 and 200). Jamicia finished an impressive 5th in the 800m. Aminah led the team to a 6th place finish (of 38 teams) in the sub-youth-13U age group.
- Elite Youth Ranking System top 100 performances: The team set a record for national rankings as there were four AE athletes represented in the final rankings led by Jaynell (14U) who became the second AE athlete to make All-American by ranking 11th in the shot. She also made the Honor Roll coming in at 27th in the discus. Other ranked athletes were Shaquiela Robinson (17U)- #38 High Jump, Aminah (14U) #42 pentathlon, #60 long jump and #79 high jump; Jamicia Jones (15U) #89 800m.
- Angel Elite was a hit at the N.C. State AAU meet grabbing 7 gold medals (Jamicia-800m; Aminah-LJ, HJ; Jaynell-shot, discus; Shaquila-HJ; Justin Jacobs-discus)
- AE followed the State performance with a strong regional performance producing 3 more gold medals and several silvers and bronzes.
2007
- Aminah Ghaffar captured Angel Elite's first AAU Junior Olympic Gold Medal winning the Midget (12U) high jump. She also grabbed a second medal finishing 6th in the pentathlon
- AE sent 5 athletes to the Junior Olympic Games held in Knoxville, TN in a total of 11 events (club record)
- 2007 AAU Club National Championship Meet in Orlando: Aminah Ghaffar grabbed silver in the high jump and pentathlon and 4th in the high jump and 80 meter hurdles.
- 2007 Region 3-A Results: Jaynell Brown – Gold in discus and gold in shot; Jamicia Jones Gold in 400m and 800m; Aminah Ghaffar Gold in Pentathlon, Long Jump and High Jump; Brandon Brown-Silver in the 100 m hurdles and 200m hurdles; Justin Jacobs – 4th in discus and Taylor McBride 6th in 400m.
- Elite Youth Ranking System: Aminah Ghaffar made Elite Youth Ranking System All-American in the High Jump (#10) and Pentathlon (#12); Jaynell Brown made Honorable Mention in the discus (#89) and the shot put (#98).
